Larson: Anthony, since we're not going to do this interview in real time, back and forth you know, I'm going to do it like a 10 Questions type thing...Hopefully that'll work out and it turns out at least a little interesting etc....Here we go....don't lie. Please state the following: full name , age, weight, occupation, shoe size, heighth, hair color, city of residence, Zodiac sign, birthplace and favorite color. Anthony: Anthony Salvatore Pappalardo, 18, 130, ?, 9.5, 5'9, Brown, Philadelphia, Virgo, Long Island, Blue. Larson: Have you ever seen the movie Monty Python's Holy Grail? If you have, could you please tell me what you got out of it and what you're favorite part of it was. If you haven't seen it, tell me your favorite movie and apply the earlier questions to it. Anthony: No...I havent seen those movies...I tend to like a lot of Scorcese movies including Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver. I dont think i get much out of these movies except enjoyment..I dont live by them or anything..I definitely dont mind comedy flicks. i can always go for a Chris Farley or Adam Sandler movie. Larson: Do you really write for Slap Magazine? I read your reviews and it sounds like someone much older and more experienced....If it's really you, you've got pretty good musical insight. I know this for a fact because I do that too. I'm an expert. Do you want to write a book? Anthony: I've gotten this question a million times and the answer is no...I think the other Anthony Pappalardo lives and skates in Boston. I guess its pretty weird because its definiteley not that common of a name..so i guess I would be no good in helping you write a book. Larson: You're Italian right? How's that going for you? Any prejudice out there towards young Italians? Whenever I say your name I think of Kool Keith because one of his alias' is Pappalaaaarge..... Anthony: Yes 100%..so far,so good...im not like a guido or anything so its not like I can be pointed out in a crowd being Italian. Can't beat the food. I do have the stereotypical big nose but theres nothing i can do about that..I'm just living my life. Larson: You just went to Australia and New Zealand with Lakai right? What the hell happened down there? Was Kelly Bird mean to you? Did you guys have a good time and skate all over the land? How did Lakai happen for you? Anthony: Yeah..thats was the best trip...that shit was so much fun...we just had to do a couple of demos and in-stores. We skated almost every city by the help of tour guide Mike O' Meally. At the end of the trip Bird came out with MVP status. He was the favorite at the beginning of the trip and he came through. Even prolonged his stay down under a couple of days. Larson: As an insightful young man, where the hell do you see skateboarding in, say, ten years? Are we in for another big crash in it's popularity and profitability or will it keep rising up? Anthony: As with anything..there will always be their ups and downs. I'm sure skateboarding is going to eventually lose its popularity and when that happens thats when all the big companies are out like, x-games and Mountain Dew because they dont want to be apart of anything thats not "new and hip." I think its way better that way. Larson: In your career as a skateboarder, you'll probably do a lot of interviews. In your opinion is this one of the worst ones you've done so far? Are you prepared for all of the accolades and notoriety and fame that may be bestowed upon you in the coming years? Some people crack under the pressure. Are you cut out for it? People are going to approach you with all kinds of sick requests and offers. Don't blow it dude Anthony: No..this interviews good because its not the same 10 questions as everyone else. I dont see skateboarders as really being famous. Maybe to a little kid because they like how you do a trick or something. I guess it can be decieving in ways when you show up at a demo and there are hundreds of little kids that came to see you skate but when you walk down the street the average pedestrian isnt going to notice you...but i guess i do see skateboarders act as if they're famous..they enter rock star mode. Larson: When you were growing up, who did you look up to? Who were your favorite pros etc...Are you more into style or tech? Combination of both? You seem to possess both. Anthony: Being from Long Island I grew up to the obvious, Gino Ianucci. He just always appealed to me how smooth and relaxed he was. Then you throw in a backside flip fakie manuel half cab flip out, it doesnt get much better. I like such a variety of people from dill, scott johnston, van engelen, stevie, kenny anderson, reynolds. They all tend to have their own styles of skating and thats mostly what I like. Larson: When did you say to yourself: That's it, I'm going to do this skate thing seriously? Or have you done that yet? Anthony: I never really did...it kind of happened pretty quick for me. I never intended for it to happen like this. I went from a kid in highschool who just liked to go skating in the city on weekends to being out of school living off skating and traveling the world. I mean now i guess i take it more seriously when i have to film or take photos or something but i would probably still skate as much as i do now. Larson: Hands down, what is the hightlight of your young career as a skateboarder? Aspirations? Anthony: Definitley traveling, not too many 18 year olds can say they've been mostly all around the world and they're stuck in a dorm room somewhere where they sure don't want to be, just making they're parents happy. Larson: I'd like to give you the remaining interview space to just give us a little insight into who you are. Shoutout's, big up's, thank you's, review your favorite CD, wax poetic etc... Anthony: Well..im not that interesting of a person where i can just talk about myself..and i dont feel like writing a big thank you list that nobody reads anyway..just anybody thats helped me out and sorry im not the Anthony Pappalardo that reviews CD's so i wouldn't be able to help you in that category either. Thanks Larson: True |
